Remarks: Exclusively freshwater taxa such as Ceratium hirundinella (O.F.Müller) Bergh, parasitic species such as Paulsenella chaetoceratis (Paulsen) Chatton or taxa insufficiently known or of doubtful validity such as the genera Cystodinium Klebs or Hypnodinium Klebs have been excluded. However the primarily freshwater species (see Popovský & Pfiester, 1990) that apparently are able to tolerate the salinity of the offshore waters of the Black Sea are listed, although not considered for biogeographical purposes.
